ISO 22005:2008 - CERTIFICATION OF THE TRACEABILITY SYSTEM IN THE FOOD CHAIN

Food product traceability, originally developed as an internal need for companies, is now fully a legislative obligation and a strategic requirement for the agri-food supply chain. In this context, the spread of Traceability Certification is not so much linked to legal enforcement, but rather to the added value that can be derived from it by the finished product, manufacturing companies, and more generally by all operators involved in the supply chain.

Traceability Certification represents an effective tool for safeguarding culture and tradition, as well as ensuring the quality and uniqueness of products, thereby helping to build trust among all interested parties, including distributors and consumers.

SOLUTION

ISO 22005 – Traceability System in the Food and Feed Chain represents the international evolution of the UNI 10939 standards on supply chain traceability and UNI 11020 on site traceability. Building on the legacy of these two standards, ISO 22005 can be applied to the entire supply chain or to specific sections of it, across various sectors ranging from feed production to meat and food industries.

The objective of the standard is to support companies in documenting the history of a product, making it possible at any time to trace its location and origin.

Today, when applied to the entire production chain, this standard is highly requested as a requirement to demonstrate the origin of products and the raw materials used.
