Regulation 1223/2009, which entered into force on July 11, 2013, provides that, in order to ensure the safety of products placed on the market, cosmetic products must be manufactured in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Specifically, Article 8 of the aforementioned Regulation establishes that “Where manufacturing is carried out in accordance with the relevant harmonized standards, the references of which have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices shall be presumed,” thereby directing cosmetic manufacturers to use ISO 22716 for cosmetic production in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
The certification process according to the international standard for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) ISO 22716 focuses the attention of organizations on guidelines for the production, control, storage, and shipment of cosmetic products in order to guarantee product quality. The guidelines provided in the standard offer organizations practical methodologies to manage the numerous factors that may affect product quality.
The implementation of ISO 22716 will bring several benefits to the organization: demonstrating compliance with GMP requirements, providing evidence of such compliance to all involved parties, and, not least, integrating compliance with ISO 22716 guidelines with other Management Systems already implemented within your organization.
